Vol. 222 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Estate.

23.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Rafferty Estate, Monard, Tipperary has been acquired by the Land Commission; and if so, when it is likely to be divided among the smallholders of the area.

Agreement has been reached for purchase by the Land Commission of some 66 acres on this Estate, situated in the townland of Acraboy, and possession will be taken as soon as the owners' title has been cleared. Pending completion of the proceedings it is not feasible to indicate when a scheme of division will be formulated.

24.

asked the Minister for Lands why the division of Charteris Estate, Cahir, County Tipperary was not completed in view of the fact that a number of smallholders in the area were depending on getting some of this land this year.

Of a total of some 816 acres acquired by the Land Commission on this estate, about 420 acres have been disposed of to date, including 144 acres which were allotted recently, that is, in March and May of this year. Final arrangements have not yet been settled for disposal of the balance of the lands but all the necessary inquiries on the ground have been concluded; I expect that a further area of 100 acres or more will be allotted later this year.
