Vol. 222 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Newmarket (Cork) Holding.

25.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received applications from a number of small and uneconomic holders at Commons South, Newmarket, County Cork for the acquisition of the holding of Daniel Daly, Commons South for division; if he is aware that this is a gravely congested area with a number of holdings of 20 acres and less of poor lands; and if he will take immediate steps for the acquisition of this holding.

Representations have been received from some local parties regarding the possible acquisition of this holding which, I understand, contains about 28 acres with a rateable valuation of just under £6. There are no proceedings for acquisition but certain inquiries are being carried out at present. The lands were advertised for sale by public auction early this month; it is understood that they are now in process of being sold to a local farmer's son and this aspect of the matter will be relevant for consideration also.
