Vol. 223 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath Cow Park.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the fact that the County Council are unable to acquire the cow park at Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, formerly owned by Locke's Distillery, as they cannot prove title, he will have utilised the powers available under the Land Act, 1965 to acquire this land for local deserving cottiers who wish to use it as a cow park.

The Land Commission recently considered a request by the Westmeath County Council that the property in question, consisting of 27 acres near the village of Kilbeggan, should be acquired under the Land Acts for allotment to the council as a cow park. It is understood that the lands, or at least part of them, are the subject of proceedings pending in the Supreme Court. Consequently the Land Commission decided to take no action for the present.
