Vol. 223 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Warble Fly Eradication.

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the cost to date of the warble fly eradication scheme to (a) the Exchequer and (b) herd owners.

The scheme did not involve the provision of any specific funds by the Exchequer. Herd owners paid approximately £645,000 for treatment of 4,300,000 cattle.

The cost to the Exchequer related to supervision by my Department's staff and to advertising and publicity. It is not possible to say, from the records available, what part of the total staff cost of my Department was attributable to the scheme. Advertising and publicity cost about £6,000.

28.

andMr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is still satisfied that the warble fly dressing of cattle does not aggravate the incidence of brucellosis.

The answer is "yes".
