Vol. 223 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - English Trained Teachers.

36.

asked the Minister for Education the conditions under which an English trained teacher may qualify for a permanent appointment as a national teacher in Ireland.

Persons who have completed satisfactorily a course of training of not less than two years' duration at a recognised training college in Northern Ireland or Britain are eligible for recognition as teacher in national schools provided they fulfil or have already fulfilled the examination requirements of the competition for admission to our own training colleges. As a condition of completion of probation, they are required to pass a written examination in Irish.
