Vol. 223 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Road Improvement.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will find out from the Kerry County Council if it is intended to improve and widen the main road on the approach to Annascaul from the Tralee side and to remove the embankment along the abandoned railway line.

The work referred to by the Deputy is located on a main road. As I informed the Deputy in reply to his previous question of 28th June last, the formulation of proposals for execution under the Main Road Improvement Grant of £109,560 available to them in the current financial year is a matter, in the first instance, for the Kerry County Council. A list of the proposals for utilising this grant, which was approved by the council at their meeting on 20th June, 1966, and which was recently received in my Department, does not include the work referred to. I understand that the council propose carrying out some improvement work under their current Tourist Road grant on the same road, on the Dingle approach to Annascaul where, because of the existence of a narrow bridge and dangerous bend, improvement is more urgently required.
