Vol. 223 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Planting.

12.

asked the Minister for Lands if the target for planting in State forests is less in the present financial year than in previous years; and, if so, if he will state the reason.

The planting programme for 1966-67 is 20,000 acres compared with the normal yearly target in recent years of 25,000 acres. In this connection, I would refer the Deputy to my statement introducing the Estimate for Forestry for the current year when I stated that this decision, in respect of the present financial year, was taken in the context of Government policy in relation to the stabilisation of State expenditure and, in particular, capital expenditure.
