Vol. 223 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farrowing Grants.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement outlining the procedure to be followed by a pig producer wishing to avail himself of the farrowing grant.

The grant scheme applies to sows farrowing during the year 15th September, 1966 to 14th September, 1967, and to not more than five sows in the possession of any individual producer. Immediately a sow farrows, the producer must apply on an official form to my Department for an inspection of the sow and litter. Arrangements will be made to provide the forms locally.

Full details of the arrangements will be announced before 15th September, but I would like to emphasise at this stage that only sows which on inspection are found to be of good quality and suitable for breeding will qualify for grants.

If a sow has two litters in the same year, will she qualify for £10 or is it confined to £5 for the individual sow?

It is confined to £5.

So that one sow cannot get £10? That has never been made clear up to this.

The Deputy can take that it is now being made clear that it is £5.
