Vol. 223 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cross-Channel Telephone Calls.

21.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give consideration to the re-routing of cross-Channel telephone calls through Belfast or Derry; and if he will consult with the British authorities in this regard.

The question has been considered but it is not practicable to alter the present arrangements under which telephone traffic to places outside Ireland is routed via Dublin.

The solution to the problem that I presume the Deputy is really concerned with is the improvement of trunk circuiting in County Donegal. This work is at present in hands and when it is completed there will be ample outlets to the rest of the country and to Britain.
