Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University Students.

47.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give figures of the number of (a) full-time students pursuing university courses, and (b) part-time or evening course students.

The number of (a) full-time and (b) part-time students attending the constituent colleges of the National University of Ireland and Trinity College during the 1965-6 academic year is 14,442 and 1,847 respectively.

48.

asked the Minister for Education if he will furnish figures of the number of students who were unable to secure places at the universities in 1965.

Every qualified student who was an Irish national was able to secure a place at a university college in 1965. Some such candidates, however, could not be admitted to the Faculties of their choice in University College, Dublin, and Trinity College, owing to a shortage of accommodation in the departments concerned.
