Vol. 224 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenancies of Nenagh Houses.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is a fact that application forms for tenancies of National Building Agency houses at Nenagh, County Tipperary have been distributed to non-nationals abroad; and, if so, if he will explain the reasons for such action.

Three groups of housing accommodation have been provided at Nenagh by the National Building Agency, Ltd. to meet specific requirements of the company which will operate the mine at Shalee. One group of houses and a scheme of dormitory accommodation are the property of the mining company. The third group of houses was provided by the Agency for letting to employees and other persons associated with the company. The company has undertaken to collect and to pay to the Agency the rent of all of this group of houses, whether or not they are occupied, in order that they may have a supply of accommodation available to facilitate the recruitment of workers and for other persons associated with the project for bringing the mines into production. The Agency is not involved in the procedure by which the company will recruit workers or select potential tenants for the houses or for the dormitory accommodation and I am not aware of any action the mining company may take in this regard.
