Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cobh Harbour Improvements.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is satisfied that the proposed expenditure of £2 million on the river and harbour development at Tivoli, Cork, to the exclusion of any improvement of the lower harbour at Cobh, is justified; and if he will take steps to ensure that the long-needed improvements to the lower harbour at Cobh will be now attended to.

I have seen published statements about the plans of the Cork Harbour Commissioners for improvement of Cork Harbour but no proposals are before me in relation to them.

Under the Harbours Act, 1946, Cork Harbour Commissioners are responsible for the management, control and operation of Cork Harbour and for the provision there of reasonable facilities and accommodation for vessels, goods and passengers. Representations about their plans for improving the Harbour should, at this stage, be made direct to the Cork Harbour Commissioners, who are the body responsible under statute.
