Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Telefís Éireann Broadcasts.

45.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he made suggestions to the authorities at Radio or Telefís Éireann following which news items were changed or deleted; and, if so, the number of occasions and the reasons for his actions on all such occasions.

46.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he suggested to Radio or Telefís Éireann that certain individuals be not allowed to broadcast; if so, the number of occasions and the reasons for his actions on all such occasions.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies to similar questions already given by the Taoiseach today.

In view of the Taoiseach's indication that each Minister is entitled to make representations on his own, would the Minister tell us why each Minister is not in a position to answer for himself the questions put down today?

He is not in the running for the succession.

The questions have been answered. Possibly the reason is that we are not a Coalition Government.

They are made up of individuals who are not allowed to speak for themselves. The Taoiseach has said what he would be afraid to allow them to say.

Did the Minister not, in his capacity as Minister for Defence prevent a broadcast?

Proper order.
