Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Forestry Land.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the acreage of lands purchased since March 1954 for State afforestation purposes, and the average price per acre paid for such lands.

The total area of land purchased for State afforestation purposes during the period from 1st April, 1954 to 31st March, 1966, was 301,257 acres, of which 257, 799 acres were classed as productive.

An average price per acre of land is not a reliable statistic as the outlay from the Grant-in-Aid Fund includes consideration for timber, houses and other improvements on the lands acquired and the calculation of such an average could be misleading.
