Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter, Flour and Bread Prices.

100.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give an assurance that no increases in the price of butter, flour and bread will be authorised without giving the Dáil an opportunity of considering the position.

I am not prepared to give the assurance sought because the responsibility for the control of prices has been assigned to me under the Prices Acts, 1958 and 1965.

As the Deputy is aware, I have set up a Prices Advisory Body to inquire into proposals by the millers and bakers to increase the price of flour and bread. The report of the body will in due course be presented to the Dáil and published.
