Vol. 224 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Hospital Improvements.

44.

asked the Minister for Health what stage has been reached in the projected improvements suggested for Saint Mary's Hospital, Drogheda and Saint Joseph's Hospital, Ardee, County Louth, which are now being used for old people.

As the Deputy is aware there was a discussion on the geriatric services in Louth on 12th instant between representatives of my Department and representatives of the health authority. The future arrangements for County Home services are at present being considered in my Department in the light of that discussion, and I hope to be in a position to put my views in the matter to the health authority at an early date.

I wish to thank the Minister for the information. He will be aware that at that discussion his officials undertook to bring to his notice the question of provision of better accommodation for ambulant patients in both St. Joseph's and St. Mary's and would he, if possible, expedite the decision because this is a matter of great urgency?

It is also very complex, as the Deputy knows.

I agree but if the Minister would deal with it, I would be obliged.
