Vol. 225 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Allowances.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance when the allowance for dependent relatives under the Income Tax Acts was last fixed; and if, in view of the decreasing value of money, he will have the amount of the allowance increased immediately.

The income tax deduction in respect of a dependent relative was raised to £60 by the Finance Act, 1956. Any question of increasing the deduction is of course a budgetary matter which would have to be considered—together with other budgetary matters—at the appropriate time.
