The amount of the National Debt, and the amount required to service it, is computed only at the end of each financial year. The information requested by the Deputy is not, therefore, readily available. The amount of the National Debt at 31st March, 1966, was £715 million. Interest paid in the half year ended 30th September, 1966 amounted to approximately £17½ million.
