Vol. 225 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Housing.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the acute housing shortage which exists in the Newcastle-Clonmel area, County Tipperary; what is the present position regarding the acquisition of sites and the erection of houses in this area; and when he expects that those in need of rehousing will be provided with accommodation.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 7 on Thursday last in which I outlined the position in regard to local authority housing in the Newcastle area.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the acute housing shortage which exists in Cahir town, County Tipperary; and what the present position is regarding the provision of housing for those awaiting rehousing in the town.

I understand that there are 22 families on the housing authority's approved list for rehousing in Cahir. A layout plan for a scheme of 28 houses was submitted to my Department on the 20th September last, together with more detailed documents for the first 14 houses which the council propose to proceed with immediately. These documents are under technical examination in my Department and a decision on them will be given shortly.
