Vol. 225 No. 1

Written Answers. - Aid for Irish Boatyards.

152.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the heavy burden on the national balance of payments caused by imports of fishing vessels for the re-equipment of the fishing fleet, he has considered or is considering plans to assist Irish boatyards to compete with foreign yards that are paid export subsidies on the sale of such craft.

I have been considering with the Minister for Finance whether arrangements can be made for the provision of credit facilities in respect of the construction of fishing vessels for An Bord Iascaigh Mhara by Irish shipyards.
