Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income of Old Age Pensioners.

131.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware of the acute overcrowding of hospital institutions due to the accommodation of large numbers of old age pensioners who are unable to live outside these institutions on their existing pensions; and, if so, if he will take steps to have their incomes augmented by the provision of additional allowances sufficient to enable them to continue living in their own homes.

I would refer the Deputy to a reply given by An tAire Sláinte to a question related to this subject on 22nd June last—Dáil Debates, Vol. 223, No. 7, col. 1025. Any suggestions or recommendations which may emerge from the deliberations referred to in the last paragraph of that reply will be duly considered by my Department.
