Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schull (Cork) Comprehensive School.

142.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received proposals for the establishment of a post-primary comprehensive school in Schull, County Cork; and, if so, what progress has been made in regard to this proposal.

The only record in my Department of such a proposal is a resolution passed by the County Cork Vocational Education Committee on 21st January, 1965, requesting the provision of a comprehensive school in Schull. The proposal was considered when sites for the comprehensive schools were being selected but it was found that the potential enrolment in the area was too low for such a school. The whole question of post-primary educational facilities in County Cork will be dealt with in a report being prepared in my Department at present. This report will be issued to the education authorities in the County before the end of the year.
