asked the Taoiseach the movements in population since 1956 in a (a) Kerry, (b) Waterford city and (c) Waterford county.

In the ten year period between the 1956 and 1966 Censuses the population of County Kerry decreased by 9,430 persons, that of Waterford County Borough increased by 764 persons and that of County Waterford decreased by 1,809 persons. The 1966 Census results from which these figures are derived are preliminary.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving details of these changes in population.

Following is the statement:

*The figures for net emigration take into account all the movement into and out of each area, whether to or from Britain or some other country, or whether due to transfer within the State from one county to another.

†Figures relate to the areas as defined prior to the extension of the boundary of Waterford County Borough which came into effect on 1 April, 1966.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary say that 9,000 emigrated from Kerry?

I said the population decreased by 9,430.

What about the thousands we are bringing back from America?

If you get a vote in Kerry, you will be doing well.
