Vol. 225 No. 8

Complaint of Breach of Privilege.

On Wednesday of last week Deputy Ryan raised as a matter of privilege the action of Senator Joseph Lenehan in passing through the barrier of the House while the House was sitting, and speaking to the Minister for Local Government who was seated on the Government benches. I consider that Senator Lenehan's action was a breach of the privileges of the House.

I have received from Senator Lenehan a written apology in the following terms:—

Ceann Comhairle,

I sincerely regret that in going to speak to the Minister for Local Government last evening I inadvertently trespassed in the Dáil Chamber. I ask you to accept my apology for this breach of privilege and to convey my apologies to the Dáil.

(Sgd.) Joseph R. Lenehan.

In view of the Senator's apology, the matter might be considered closed.
