Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butt Bridge Traffic Signs.

48.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there are contradictory right of way signs as between north bound and south bound traffic meeting at the northern end of Butt Bridge, Dublin; and if he will take steps to remedy this situation.

While the provision of traffic signs is a matter for the local authority concerned, in this case the Dublin Corporation, acting at the request, or with consent of the Garda Commissioner, I am not aware that the position is as the Deputy suggests. I understand that the only real traffic conflict at this junction is between northbound traffic proceeding from Tara Street to Beresford Place and westbound traffic proceeding from Custom House Quay to Eden Quay and with a view to resolving this problem a "Yield" sign was provided recently to give priority to the northbound traffic over the westbound traffic. This applies of course only when the junction is not controlled by a member of the Garda Síochána.
