Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to give sanction to Laois County Council to carry out a water supply scheme to serve Borris-in-Ossory and Castletown, County Laois; what is the cause of the delay in regard to this scheme; and if work can be undertaken this coming year.

Tenders for the filtration plant for this scheme are still under consideration in my Department. I am not yet in a position to say when sanction is likely to issue.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total expenditure incurred by Kerry County Council in connection with consulting fees in connection with his proposals for regional water supply schemes and extension to water supply schemes, etc., in County Kerry.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department. I am asking Kerry County Council to furnish the required details which I will have conveyed to him in due course.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position regarding the group water supply scheme for the Adrigole district, Bantry, County Cork.

Plans prepared by the committee responsible for the group water supply scheme at Trafrask, Adrigole, are at present under consideration by Cork County Council.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Cork County Council have received and opened a number of very competitive tenders for the execution of the Clonakilty regional water supply scheme, and, if so, if in view of the fact that the execution of this scheme is likely to be spread over a period of three years, he will agree to make money available immediately for the approved tender for the scheme which will be submitted to him in the near future.

I am aware that Cork County Council proceeded to seek tenders for this scheme in the absence of my approval to the final contract documents which are still under consideration in my Department. The question of the financing of the scheme will not arise until the contract documents have been approved.

I am not in a position to say when a decision will be given.

Cork County Council claim that they have dealt with those plans and that the applicants are waiting for approval from the Department to go ahead with the work.

My information is that they are still under examination in Cork County Council.

Will the Minister state whether money will be made available for the implementation of this scheme, now that we have got the tenders and it is likely that a firm proposal will reach the Department in December, and also in view of the fact that the tenders remained open from February until November?

The first thing that has to be done is that the contract documents have to be approved. This should have been done before tenders were invited.

Everything that should have been done was done before tenders were invited, but the Minister's predecessor had no money for the scheme. I wonder if this scheme was located in Kerry would we get that type of answer?

The contract documents have not been approved.

They were approved.

Everything is in order. Just say you have not the money. It will come to the Minister again next month.

(Interruptions.)
55.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will explain the delay in his Department in sending back the contract documents to Cork County Council northern committee for the Derryvillane-Ballyanehan, Kildorrery water supply scheme.

Contract documents for the Ballyanehan-Derryvillane regional water supply scheme which will serve an area between Mitchelstown and Kildorrery are under examination in my Department. I am not in a position to say when approval thereto is likely to issue.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the present position is regarding Emlaghmore water scheme, Caherciveen PO, County Kerry.

Arising out of the examination in my Department of the preliminary report for the Emlaghmore water supply scheme, Kerry County Council were asked to furnish additional data as to the adequacy of the proposed source of supply. This information was received on the 7th ultimo and is, together with the preliminary report, at present under examination.

57.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the up-to-date position is regarding the sewerage scheme at Golden, County Tipperary; and when it is expected that it will be completed.

I understand that work on this scheme was completed last July.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the present position is in regard to the sewerage scheme at Cahir, County Tipperary; and when it is expected that it will be completed.

Tipperary (S.R.) County Council's proposal to appoint a consulting engineer to prepare a report on a sewerage scheme for Cahir was approved on 4th November, 1965. No subsequent proposals have been received in my Department in relation to the scheme.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the sewers on Saint Peter's Road, Walkinstown, Dublin, have not been taken in charge by the Dublin County Council, having regard to the fact that many houses there are built ten years or more.

I am informed that the county council require some additional works to be carried out by the developers in this case before taking the services in charge.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government the housing, water supply and sewerage schemes for South Tipperary and West Waterford area which have been submitted to him by the appropriate local authorities for loan sanction; and if he will state in each case the date the scheme was submitted, the amount of loan required, and when the loan is likely to be sanctioned.
