Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Redundancy.

97.

asked the Minister for Labour if, having regard to the redundancy caused by the integration of two companies (details supplied), steps will be taken to provide retraining and other re-employment facilities for the workers affected.

I understand that the integration of the two companies concerned will not be completed for a considerable time and that it is not certain, at this stage, whether any redundancies will arise. I hope that, by the time the integration is completed, schemes will be in operation for retraining under the Industrial Training Bill which is at present before the Oireachtas and for the making of redundancy payments under legislation which I hope to introduce in the near future. The eligibility of individual workers for retraining and for redundancy payments will, of course, depend on the provisions of the legislation approved by the Oireachtas.
