asked the Minister for Education whether 1970 is the date still intended for the raising of the school leaving age at primary level.

Mr. O'Malley
As already announced, the Government propose to raise the school-leaving age to 15 years by 1970. This would not entail retention of the primary school up to that age. It is my intention to ensure that within the compulsory period, every child would have the opportunity of obtaining three years' post-primary education.
