Vol. 225 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Industrial Development.

29.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the lack of industrial development in Limerick city and county; and, if so, if he can indicate what proposals, if any, are before his Department at present for the establishment of industries in this area and the likelihood of these proposals materialising in the near future.

Limerick city and county, in common with other parts of the country, already have available to them generous incentives which have been provided by the Government in the interest of stimulating new and expanded industrial activities. It is for private industry to take advantage of these facilities and the Deputy may rest assured that any sound proposals for the establishment of industries in the area will be afforded all the assistance within my power.

I am aware of one proposal for the establishment of a new industry in Limerick city. The Deputy will be aware of publicity relating to this proposal. I am not in a position at this stage to make any further statement.

I have already announced that I am arranging an experimental programme in certain areas for the encouragement of small industries. Limerick is one of the areas I have selected.
