Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Nurses in London.

18.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if his attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to the matron of a large London hospital that in selecting student nurses preference should be given to West Indians rather than Irish girls; and if, having regard to the fact that Irish girls are recognised the world over as the best and most dedicated to the nursing profession, he will take this matter up with the Ambassador in London so that inquiries can be made into it.

I have seen the article containing the statement referred to in the Deputy's question. I am having inquiries made in the matter and I shall endeavour to have a full reply for the Deputy if he repeats his question in two or three weeks time.
