Vol. 226 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Repair Service Company.

23.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has had any consultation with Aer Lingus regarding the future of the Shannon Repair Service Company; if so, what plans Aer Lingus have for this company; and whether he will give an assurance that the livelihood of the employees will be safeguarded.

Because of the dearth of business, Shannon Repair Service Ltd. has been incurring heavy losses which it has not been possible to eliminate, despite intensive promotional activity. Following consultations between the company and Aer Lingus, arrangements for retraining the redundant staff are being negotiated with the Shannon Free Airport Development Company and in the circumstances the protective notices of dismissal issued to the staff concerned have been withdrawn.

Is the Minister aware that protective notice was recently served on 34 members of the staff and that it is rumoured now that this protective notice has been withdrawn? Would he confirm whether the notice has been withdrawn?

I have just said so, in reply to the question.
