Vol. 226 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Calls to US.

30.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give details of the reduction in the cost of telephone calls to the United States which came into force on 1st February, 1967; and if these charges can be further reduced during the coming year.

The charge for an ordinary (i.e., non-personal) daytime call was reduced from £3 to £2 10s for the first three minutes. The corresponding night and Sunday charge was reduced from £2 5s to £1 17s 6d.

The charge for each additional minute on both ordinary and personal calls was reduced from £1 to 16s 8d during the day and from 15s to 12s 6d at night and on Sundays.

These reductions were agreed following protracted negotiations between European telephone administrations and the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. No further changes are planned at present.
