Vol. 226 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Exports to Britain.

11.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity of beef exported to Britain from 1st July, 1966 to 31st December, 1966.

Domestic exports of carcase beef to Great Britain in the period July-December, 1966 amounted to 548,279 cwts.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say, if in view of the inadequacy of the beef quota that qualifies for the deficiency payment, sought and secured under the Trade Agreement, it is now proposed to look for revision of that Agreement, especially as we have exported the full quantity in less than six months?

He has forgotten the 2,000 bulls.

I do not know to what inadequacy the Deputy refers.

The inadequacy of the quantity of beef qualifying for the deficit payment. We were told by the Minister for Agriculture at the time that we got all we asked for.

(Interruptions.)

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that we are sending 2,000 cattle to Germany, all these elderly bulls?

(Interruptions.)

My supplementary question has not yet been answered.

It does not arise.

It arises directly from the question.

May I remind the House that there are 220 questions on the Order Paper.

And 2,000 bulls.

In half an hour, we have disposed of 11 questions.

This is the first time that I got to my feet today and I did not get a reply.

Question No. 12.

There is no point in asking supplementary questions if they are not going to be answered.

(Interruptions.)
