Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Schoolchildren.

157.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Education if a mini-bus service can be provided to carry children from the Holyford area to secondary schools at either Thurles or Tipperary town.

Under my new scheme, free transport will be provided for children living more than three miles from the nearest suitable post-primary centre. The necessary organisational arrangements for the introduction of the scheme are at present being made. Pending the completion of these arrangements, I am not in a position to state which would be the most suitable post-primary centre for the children from Holyford.

158.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to provide transport for the children of Glenlara to Shanaghy national school, Belmullet, County Mayo.

I assume that the school the Deputy is referring to is Aughalassen national school, Belmullet, County Mayo.

The Manager of this school has been notified by my Department of the sanction of a grant for the conveyance to the school of children residing in the districts of Glenlara and Gortaneadin. He has been asked to make arrangements to have the service put into operation as soon as possible.
