Vol. 226 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Fishing Facilities.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if in view of the general disquiet among the fishermen in Glengad, County Donegal he will make a statement on the provision of better safety conditions in the area; if it is yet decided whether Bunagee or Portaleen harbour is to be repaired; and when it is proposed to commence work.

The question of improving harbour facilities at Bunagee or Portaleen to meet the needs of the Glengad fishermen is being examined at present.

I am now six years in this House and about four years before I came here, I read in the local newspaper that the Minister made a statement in Glengad that it was then being considered. That is ten years ago.

The Deputy said six a while ago.

Four years before I came in.

I heard the Minister's father saying the same thing 30 years ago.

Why does the Deputy not quote what he himself said?

I am sure I said it, too.

I am asking the Minister can he not be more definite than saying it is being considered.

He is waiting for the local elections.

I would hope that this examination would be completed before the elections which, undoubtedly, the Deputy has his eye on when he asks the question.

It is not in my electoral area.

But the Deputy has an interest.

I can tell you that the people who vote in that area are not voting Fianna Fáil any more.

Do not cod yourself, after the meeting with one attender, such as there was last summer.

They caught you out in that area in the Presidential election. Glengad will not be "had" any more.

Question No. 22 postponed.
