Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Training of Ambulance Personnel.

119.

asked the Minister for Health the names and qualifications of the members of the training board which he has set up to organise and supervise the scheme for the proposed centralised system of training for ambulance personnel.

The names and qualifications are as set out in the official statement which I caused to be issued by the Government Information Bureau on 8th December last. I am prepared to repeat them here for the Deputy's convenience; but to save the time of the House, I would suggest, a Cheann Comhairle, that they should be circulated with the Official Report.

The following are the names and qualifications of the Committee set up recently to organise and supervise a central training course for the personnel of the local authority ambulance service:— Malachy Powell, M.D., D.P.H. (Chairman) Senior Medical Inspector, Department of Health; Patrick C. Carey, M.B., M.Ch., Neuro-Surgeon; Anthony Eustace, M.B., B.Ch., D.P.H., County Medical Officer, Meath; Joseph Gallagher, M.Ch., F.R.C.S.I., Orthopaedic Surgeon; Thomas M. Gregg, M.D., F.R.C.P.I., Medical Director, National Medical Rehabilitation Centre; Thomas O'Brien, B.E., Chief, Dublin Fire Brigade; Austin P. O'Connor, M.B., D.A., F.F.A., Comdt., Army Medical Corps; James St. L. O'Dea, M.B., D.P.H., Resident Medical Superintendent, St. Kevin's Hospital, Dublin; Patrick M. O'Toole, M.B., D.A., Anaesthetist, Dublin Health Authority; Joseph A. Robins, B.A., B.Comm., D.P.A., Assistant Principal Officer, Department of Health; James Walsh, L.R.C.P.I., D.P.H., Medical Inspector, Department of Health.

120.

asked the Minister for Health if it is his intention to afford an opportunity to the representatives of the trade unions concerned to discuss and comment on any proposed centralised system of training for ambulance drivers; and if he will consider suggestions which the ambulance drivers may wish to make concerning the scheme before it is introduced

I understand that the City and County Managers Association and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions have agreed to the setting-up of a joint working party to consider the training arrangements referred to and other matters relating to the ambulance staffs of local authorities. The working party will, of course, provide an opportunity for the consideration of any suggestions which may be put forward regarding the proposed training course.
