Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Farms.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that in the parishes of Moycorkey and Two Mile Borris, Thurles, County Tipperary there are eight farms (particulars supplied) not being worked by their owners which are let in conacre to persons outside their districts; and that there is a large number of small-holders in these parishes who are badly in need of land, some of whom are compelled to pay large sums for conacre; and, if so, whether he will arrange for an immediate inspection of those farms by the Land Commission with a view to acquisition and distribution among the local small-holders.

There are no proceedings for the acquisition of these properties but the Deputy's representations are being brought to the notice of the Land Commission.

Will the Minister consider having his Department inspect those places and having a report given?

The matter is being referred to the Land Commission. When matters like this are raised here, a report is sought.

I should like to ask how many of those farms are set in conacre. Has the Minister any information on this?

I have not got a report on this matter.

I think the figure of eight is wrong.

I have already given the Minister the number of farms, which is eight, which are let in conacre.

Allegations which Deputies make in matters of this kind are one thing. The actual facts are very often different.
