Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cross-Border Traffic.

60.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now prepared to abolish the pass book system, at present operating in relation to cross-Border Vehicular traffic; and if he will abolish the payment of 2/- in view of the fact that the British authorities have no such levy.

The matters referred to in the question are at present under review as are all other aspects of our system of customs control of cross-Border traffic. In this connection the Deputy will have noted my recent announcement of the extension of the concession pass scheme to additional classes of motorists living in Border areas. I am not yet in a position to say what other modifications of customs requirements may be decided upon. If any further changes are to be made, however, I would hope that they would be introduced before the 1967 tourist traffic begins to build up.
