Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Renting of Government Offices.

64.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the growing tendency of Government Departments to rent office space from development companies, many of whom are foreign-based; whether the rental period arranged for such accommodation makes this an economic proposition; and the number of departments which rent such space in Dublin.

I would refer the Deputy to the statement which I made on this subject on the introduction of the Vote for Public Works and Buildings for the current year on the 7th December, 1966.

The registered offices of all of the companies owning new buildings in which office space has been rented are in Dublin. I am satisfied, having regard to all circumstances, that the arrangements made are economical.

The Department of Posts and Telegraphs rents the office space required for its own purposes. The Office of Public Works acts on behalf of the other State Departments.
