Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of Iveagh House.

65.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been directed to unfavourable comment on the condition of Iveagh House, the headquarters of the Department of External Affairs; and what steps he proposes to take to keep the building in good condition.

I have seen the newspaper article referred to.

The question of cleaning the stonework on the front of Iveagh House has already been raised by the Minister for External Affairs and was being considered by the Office of Public Works. Parts of the stonework are affected by lichen and other growths, and during the past week a chemical preparation has been applied. It is yet too soon to judge the effects of this treatment but, if necessary, further measures will be taken.
