Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leinster House Building Work.

66.

asked the Minister for Finance when work on the rebuilding of and extensions to Leinster House (a) commenced and (b) will be completed; the estimated cost of the work; the actual cost to date; and the estimated cost of the balance of the work.

Work on this project commenced in 1962 and it is expected to be completed next summer.

The estimated cost of the work is £660,000. The expenditure to date is £571,000 and the estimated cost of the balance of the work is £89,000.

Does the Minister contemplate providing walkie-talkie equipment as a means of communication for the ushers who have to traverse this extension?

That does not seem to arise.

I do not quite understand the Deputy.

Because of the extension, it is very difficult for the ushers to get in touch with one another.

If there is an obvious need for such a device, it will be considered.
