Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Bog Drainage.

72.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that unless further drainage is immediately undertaken at Sylann Bog, County Galway, the Irish Sugar Company are not prepared to hire out their turf-cutting plant during the season; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy the situation.

I am not so aware. I am, however, arranging for an inspection of the site and on receipt of the report, the matter will be further examined.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate what he means when he says that he is not so aware?

Of the matter the Deputy raises in this question.

There are two forms to the question.

I have answered the question as the Deputy asked it.

The Parliamentary Secretary has sidestepped it.

If the Deputy does not understand his own questions——

Is it from the Sugar Company's point of view or the people's point of view that the Parliamentary Secretary is answering?

The only thing I can do, Sir, is, with your permission, to repeat the reply.

The Parliamentary Secretary did not give a reply.

On second thoughts, I do not think that would help either.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary mean that the answer is so bad?

The answer is factual.
