asked the Minister for Health the steps taken to date in respect of the proposed international competition for the appointment of architects for the Cork Regional Hospital; and if he will make an up to date statement on the general aspects of the proposal to build the hospital.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital.
The project to which the Deputy refers involves the planning, building and equipping of a general hospital and a dental hospital and school to be erected on adjoining sites at Wilton, Cork. These functions were assigned to the Cork Hospitals Board which was established in June last. The Board held its first meeting on 11th July last and has made considerable progress in the collection of information and the formulation of proposals for the provision of the hospital.
In so far as the general aspects of the proposal to build the hospital are concerned, I am satisfied that a new major hospital is required in Cork and that it should be provided with as little delay as possible.
