Vol. 226 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - White Paper on Health Services.

116.

asked the Minister for Health when he will have discussions with the Irish Medical Association and the Medical Union on the proposals outlined in last year's White Paper on Health; and if he will give the reason for the delay in opening discussions.

117.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in increasing the maternity cash grant from £4 to £8 as promised in last year's White Paper; and when the increase will be given.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 116 and 117 together.

I intend to make a statement on the present position as respects the White Paper proposals when introducing the Estimate for my Department in the coming week and in these circumstances it would appear to be preferable to defer until then dealing with the subject matter of these two questions.

Are we taking the Health Estimate next week?

Yes, immediately after the Labour Estimate.
