Vol. 226 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Worker Welfare Legislation.

29.

asked the Minister for Labour whether legislation for worker welfare is contemplated; and, if so, if he will indicate the nature of the legislation.

I would refer the Deputy to my statement when introducing the Estimate for my Department on 16th February, 1967.

I told the House then of the progress being made with current legislation relating to workers' interests. A comprehensive series of new regulations will be promulgated in the near future under existing Acts for the safety, health and welfare of persons employed in factories, mines and quarries. A full review is being undertaken of all the protective legislation administered by my Department but it is too soon to say yet what amendments are called for or what gaps need to be filled.
