asked the Minister for Defence the number of recruits taken into the Army in each of the last ten years.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to circulate it in the Official Report.

Recruitment to the Permanent Defence Force during the period 1957-1966.

The number of recruits to the Permanent Defence Force, including the Naval Service, in each of the last ten years was as follows: 1957, 1,105; 1958, 2,060; 1959, 1,785; 1960, 1,199; 1961, 1,007; 1962, 1,087; 1963, 1,087; 1964, 905; 1965, 1,175; 1966, 767.
