Vol. 227 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Lands.

23.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the fact that the Land Commission have the lands at McDonnell's Estate, Lisnagalna, Four-Roads, County Roscommon let for the past four years, he will state when it is proposed to divide them among the congests in the area.

It is not yet possible to indicate when allotment of this estate will be feasible. .The Land Commission are anxious to have the property divided as soon as possible and indeed the necessary enquiries on the ground have been concluded. However, due to the large number of deserving smallholders in the locality, the relatively small area of this property-32 acres-is quite insufficient to make an impact and I am aware that the Land Commission are interested in getting more land in the area.

Could the Minister state how long this land has been in the hands of the Land Commission?

I do not know whether I have that information here or not. It has been in the hands of the Land Commission since towards the end of 1963.

It is time it was divided.

It is useless in the local conditions until we get more land or until some of them are migrated.
