Vol. 227 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Units at Commemoration Ceremonies.

35.

asked the Minister for Defence whether, when the Army participate in commemorative functions, he or the Army authorities decide on the units required; and whether certain units are detailed for such ceremonies.

The Army authorities decide on the composition of military detachments to be detailed for participation in commemorative functions. The personnel concerned may be selected from any unit or from a number of different units as may be considered necessary by the military authorities.

Can the Minister say which units have been detailed for the celebration of the Collins Commemoration at Beal-na-Blath in June?

That is not an Army commemoration ceremony. I have answered the question on the basis of the commemorative functions the Army is detailed to attend.
