Vol. 227 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Kinsale Schoolboys.

47.

asked the Minister for Education whether, under the proposed State-financed transport scheme for post-primary schools, protan vision will be made for boys from the Kinsale area who attend secondary schools in Cork city.

Until such time as provision is made for secondary education for boys in the Kinsale area, free transport to the nearest centre will be provided for boys who wish to obtain secondary education. In this regard, however, I hope that facilities for secondary education for boys up to intermediate certificate level will be made available in Kinsale by September next.

May we take it that there will be free transport provided from Kinsale to Cork as from next September?

Mr. O'Malley

No; I would not take that if I were the Deputy. As the Deputy will be aware, we are having a county conference down there and all these different matters will come up. Therefore, I should not like to anticipate what the ultimate decisions will be.

If I repeat the question in a few weeks' time, will the Minister be able to reply?

Mr. O'Malley

Is Kinsale not about 17 miles from Cork city?

Mr. O'Malley

That is the snag. However, I shall be glad to answer the question if the Deputy repeats it.
