Vol. 228 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Council Vested Houses.

5.

asked the Minister for Local Government if loans are available from any source to qualified people in need of housing for the purpose of purchasing county council vested houses.

I indicated in the detailed circular letter on the Housing Act, 1966, issued to housing authorities on 14th April, 1967, that there was no objection to the making by an authority of a loan for the purchase of a vested cottage in a case where a need for re-housing was established which otherwise would have to be met by the authority, but that, in other cases, any credit needed for the transaction should be obtained from a source other than the authority. In this respect, therefore, the position in regard to loans for the purchase of vested cottages is the same as that in regard to other previously occupied houses.
